![]() With original Vista install, this problem was not present- mentioned programs ran fine. One problem with this Vista SP1 RC: some older programs do not run, returning: Run-time error '429': Presto, all older progs in question run again fine!!! you will need to do so more than once- have faith in the process, which will right itself each and every time, w/o interference from you. Do NOT be tempted to manually re-start! Go fix a sandwich, walk the cat, etc. PS Often during the constant downloading / installing / rebooting it will seem like your system is frozen- whether during initial bootup, welcome screen, scan, download, install.even after giving it a few minutes to respond. Ran MS Update, which triggered a re-install of SP1. Ran older programs in question, still would not run.Ĥ. ![]() mostly the former though.Īs well some take over MSInstaller, not allowing anything else to install until after reboot(talking about completely unrelated patches not affected by version conflicts).ģ. ![]() Installed Unofficial Cumulative & all-inclusive Rollups of both:īTW These were the only updates, out of a whole bunch(though certainly NOT all earlier ones were attempted) that took- either just plain overinstalling or offering to repair existing install. EDIT: I fixed this by reinstalling some earlier updates, plus one or two missed ones, which triggered a 'reinstall of SP1 by MS Update':ġ.
